How do you feel about DeVry University?

For those who has went to DeVry, please share your opinion. I heard that the degrees from DeVry is usually looked down by employers. Is this true?

I did not go to Devry. I’ve merely observed from the sidelines. Here are my thoughts.

Devry is regionally "accredited" by the Northcentral Association and the Higher Learning Commission – which seems fine, but Devry is not accredited by the important agencies, such as the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accrediting Commission for Schools (WASC). Devry is a technical school that has gone into the business of selling Bachelor’s, Masters, and PhD degrees. When you graduate from Devry, instead of becoming a computer engineer, you become a computer technician, a much inferior and less paying role. If you were to attend Devry for a period of time and eventually tried to transfer to, say, UC Santa Cruz – hardly any of your credits would transfer. A Devry degree is one that will get you laughed out of interviews, and I’ve even seen some job postings that state "Devry grads need not apply." I’ve heard that a Devry degree is like purchasing a car, but getting the large payments and not the car.

I would steer clear. Others, likely former Devry students or employees/stakeholders, will argue otherwise – they will vehemently defend their supposed degree. Think for yourself. Inquire with various employers as to whether they would hire Devry grads. Do your math.
